The Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8) is the federal government’s major program for assisting low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled to afford decent, safe and sanitary housing in the private market. West New York Housing Authority currently has serves 424 units through this program.
Section 8 properties are located throughout the City of West New York and include private apartment buildings as well as two- and three-family homes.
Inspections are performed on program units annually and upon initial move-Ins, special complaints, and move-outs. Units must meet minimum standards set forth by the local municipality’s building codes as well as HUD standards.
Recipients must remain a resident of West New York for one year. After one year they have the ability to move or transfer due to family needs. i.e.. employment. This option is available depending on the Housing Authority financials.
